The Life is in the Blood
Scripture – Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”
Observation – The reason blood was shed was because ‘the life is in the blood’. The blood represents life. Of course it is all a shadow speaking of Jesus’ perfect blood (life) that was to be shed for sin. Death – is the result of sin. The penalty for sin is death. God would allow animal’s blood to be a covering for the people’s uncleanness and sin. Jesus’ blood would not just cover but remove the sin and make the people clean. Blood ‘speaks’. Innocent blood that is shed ‘speaks’.
Application – We must realise that it is not our works that make us righteous. The work of our flesh can never cleanse our flesh. It is our faith in the blood of Jesus that enables us to stand righteous and clear before the Lord. It is no longer our sacrifices. Jesus has paid the sacrifice once for all. Every time we take communion we remember that it is the blood that cleanses us. Jesus’ life was poured out for me. I can now stand righteous and clean before Almighty God on the basis if this wonderful sacrifice.
Prayer – Lord, help me to remember my right standing before you is because of Jesus’ blood – it is not my works or my righteousness – because they are like filthy rags.
