2/12/09        Overcoming Evil    

 Scripture – Romans 12:21 “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Observations – In this chapter Paul exhorts us to behave differently to the world. Evil is surrounding us and we must not give in to its overtures. The world tries to overcome evil with evil and this creates more evil (resentment, hatred, murder, responses etc.)

We bless those who curse us. We feed our enemy and bless him – bearing the judgement to God. We can unfortunately be like the disciples who want to call down fire from heaven. When we do this we are operating out of the wrong spirit. When we love, forgive, bless, do good we bring in a powerful force that in the end destroys evil.

 Application – Firstly I must not allow evil to overcome me – by being forced into responding to evil with evil – by allowing it to overwhelm me. I need to remember that the Lord is on the throne and that the way of love does not fail. I must leave judgment and vengeance to the Lord.

Prayer – Help me Lord to see the whole matter of evil as you see it. Help me to remain strong and to respond with love and forgiveness. Help me not to be over-burdened with evil. I need Your grace, energy and love to flow through – because love is the best remedy.
