Bali update

Hi Everyone!
While we are having a great time over here in Bali we are missing you all.
We certainly hope you are all well and rejoicing in the Lord.
This is a very beautiful place, with many beautiful people, however
there is an underlying spiritual darkness. Everywhere you turn there
is evidence of Hinduism that pervades the atmosphere. Incense is
consistently burned and little gifts are constantly given to the
“gods” to ward off evil and attract “good” luck.
We have been able to bless a few people and pray for a couple. I have
definitely been praying for Bali and especially for the churches that
operate here. As all over the world there is such a need for Jesus to
set the captives free.
Our holiday is quickly coming to an end. Today we hope to finish off
with a little shopping and then tomorrow do a little touring before
catching the plane home to Melbourne.
We will be back for the Sunday evening meeting. Hope to see you there.
We love you.
God bless you richly.

Hot Days, Street Venders and Shopping

We are well and certainly enjoying the hot weather, although it is good to be able to return to an air-conditioned room. It is interesting being in another culture however there are times when there is an overload. This is especially the case when shopping -everywhere we go there are people trying to sell us hotel deals, sunglasses, motor-cycle rides, tours and anything else you can think of.

After such cultural experiences it is wonderful to get back to our little hotel-oasis and dive in to the pool, then relax in the shade and sip on a cool drink.

Today (Monday) is Di’s birthday. It was good fun shopping for some presents. The shopping is pretty good. You can get some quite good things for your money.

That’s it for now - too hot in the internet cafe.

SOAP in Bali!

No matter where you go in the world you can continue to use SOAP. With three hours difference from Melbourne I am awake very early and get straight into Word. It is great way to begin the day - even on holidays!

I loved today’s readings in Matthew 8-10 (21-11-08)

I concentrated on the great faith of the centurian. Because he was a man under authority he understood the power in the word of a superior officer. He certainly recognised Jesus as one with authority and therefore only needed a word to know that the work would be done.

In these three chapters it is interesting to note that with ‘a word’ Jesus drove out demons and healed the sick. He knew that it was God’s will to heal and was under the Father’s authority. He knew who faith worked and recognised it in others.

Hope you are continuing to be blessed by SOAP and it is becoming a habit in your life.

S.O.A.P. 1

Well, SOAP is up and running and so far there has been some great feedback. There have also been some questions and even some concerns. I want to take this opportunity to respond to some of the questions and concerns.

While we highly recommend SOAP as a really effective Bible Reading Plan, it is by no means mandatory. If you already have an effective plan that provides a regular (daily) Bible reading diet go for it. However, if you have no plan and are doing very little, give SOAP a go and see if it works for you.

There are 3 levels. Please feel free to choose the level that suits you best. You may even change from level to level depending on your time constraints. To be doing level 1 on a daily basis can certainly be effective. It means you are meditating on a number of verses every day. That is probably a lot more than you were doing before (365 per year!).

There is something very special about a whole lot of people doing the same verses every day. Already I am hearing about how exciting people are finding it to be discussing the Word of God with others on a regular basis.

Remember it can help to do your Bible Study in a place you like and doing something you enjoy. Examples: Having breakfast when it is quiet and peaceful OR with others having coffee at your favorite cafe.

If you have a testimony connected to the SOAP plan please make a comment. Also if you have any questions please let me know. Make a comment and add it to the blog.

Make sure you keep checking out www.libertychurch.org.au for helpful information about SOAP.

God bless you!  Richard
